DUNS Number for Google Play Developer Account in Nigeria
Google Play has a straightforward rule for organization developer accounts: if you want to publish Android apps under a company name, you need a verified D-U-N-S Number from Dun & Bradstreet.
Individual developer accounts do not require this. But for Nigerian startups, fintechs, logistics companies, and any business publishing under a registered brand, the DUNS requirement is non-negotiable.
Organization vs individual accounts

Most Nigerian product teams eventually need the organization path. Investors, enterprise clients, and payment processors usually expect the app published under the legal entity, not a founder's personal Google account.
Where Google asks for your DUNS number
During Play Console setup for a business account, Google runs identity verification. Part of that process checks your business against Dun & Bradstreet's database using your D-U-N-S Number.
If the number is not found, or the legal name does not match, verification fails. You will see errors like "DUNS number not found" or "business could not be verified."
What documents you need
Google itself does not collect your CAC documents — Dun & Bradstreet does during DUNS issuance. Prepare:
- CAC registration certificate (PDF via Google Drive)
- Latest CAC status report (annual return / company status)
- Registered company name and RC/BN number
- Physical office address in Nigeria
- Director name, TIN, and company contact details
- Description of your products or services
The status report is particularly important. It proves to D&B that your company is active with CAC, not dissolved or inactive.
Fixing "DUNS number not found" errors
This is the most common Google Play verification error for Nigerian companies. Causes:

Database lag — DUNS was issued recently but D&B has not propagated to Google's verification system yet. Wait 2-3 business days.

Name mismatch — The company name in Play Console does not exactly match D&B's record. Check your CAC certificate and re-enter precisely.

Wrong number — A typo in the nine-digit DUNS number. Double-check against your D&B confirmation email.

No DUNS yet — You entered a placeholder or a number from a different entity. Each legal company needs its own DUNS.
Timeline for Nigerian companies
Realistic timeline from zero to verified Play Console organization account:
- DUNS acquisition: 7 business days (with assisted service) or several weeks (DIY via D&B)
- D&B propagation: 2-3 business days after issuance
- Google verification: 1-3 business days after DUNS is findable
Plan at least 10-14 business days total if you are starting from scratch.
